Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill will be participating in Kevin Sinfield’s fundraising event in Sheffield to support Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Ennis-Hill, a Sheffield resident, has committed to running alongside Sinfield on Thursday during the fourth segment of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ initiative.
Sinfield, who kicked off this challenge on Monday, aims to complete an ultra marathon daily for a week.
This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive charity endeavor for MND causes, having already raised over £10 million. The funds raised have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the UK.
The former England and Leeds Rhinos athlete initiated these challenges after his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND.
Sinfield’s extraordinary dedication has garnered global recognition, and Ennis-Hill’s endorsement adds significant momentum to raising MND awareness.
Ennis-Hill, a heptathlon Olympic champion in 2012 and three-time world champion, transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement. She serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield’s overarching goal remains finding a cure for this debilitating disease. The recent diagnosis of MND in England’s World Cup winner Lewis Moody serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing need for advocacy.
Moody, in turn, plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.
Following the Sheffield leg, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria and Scotland before concluding the challenge in Leeds on Sunday.
