A woman has confessed to the killing of 10 dogs by using a poisonous substance she was testing, following accusations of murdering an elderly man with a toxic bean stew.
Police chief Halisson Ideiao has labeled Ana Paula Veloso as a “psychopath” and a “serial killer” for her alleged involvement in the death of pensioner Neil Correa da Silva in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Investigations suggest that Veloso, along with the victim’s daughter Michele Paiva da Silva, orchestrated the murder, with Paiva da Silva reportedly funding Veloso’s trip from Guarulhos to Rio for assistance in the assassination.
Both Veloso and Paiva da Silva are under police custody and are being connected to three additional homicides. Halisson mentioned, “She admits to killing 10 dogs with the poison, testing the method and effects meticulously. She was well aware of the timing, dosage, and consequences of her actions.” This revelation followed the discovery of terbufos, a pesticide, at Veloso’s residence, known to be less potent than lead.
The investigation has expanded to involve police in Sao Paulo interviewing Veloso’s twin sister, Roberta, who allegedly played a role in Neil’s demise by providing support and encouragement, as reported by G1.
Michele Paiva da Silva, the victim’s daughter and a 42-year-old law student, was apprehended outside Engenho Novo University in Rio on Tuesday. Neil, aged 65, passed away at Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital on April 26, prompting the exhumation of his body for forensic analysis to determine potential poisoning.
Police assert that the father-daughter relationship was strained, while both Ana and Michele, described as friends, were present when Neil fell ill and was taken to the hospital. Text messages exchanged between them discussing poisoning Neil have been recovered.
Furthermore, authorities are linking the pensioner’s death to three other suspected poisonings in Guarulhos, believed to be orchestrated by Veloso and Paiva da Silva. Halisson claimed, “Ana Paula poisoned four individuals, including Neil, on Michelle’s orders.”
Halisson noted that Veloso had initially come to police attention alleging an attempted cake poisoning, but investigators concluded it was a ploy to divert suspicion away from herself, stating, “Ana Paula Veloso falsely claimed she was a victim of a poisoned cake incident. However, our investigation revealed she was not a victim but rather a serial killer.”
