Russia has been actively targeting UK satellites in space on a weekly basis, according to a senior military official. Major General Paul Tedman, the head of the UK Space Command, disclosed the extent of Moscow’s interference with UK assets during a recent visit to RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire. The base houses the British and American Ballistic Missile Early Warning System.
During his visit, Gen Tedman highlighted Russia’s efforts to disrupt satellites using ground-based systems, stating, “We’re witnessing consistent jamming of our satellites by the Russians.” He also mentioned that Russia is closely monitoring and attempting to gather information from the satellites.
Gen Tedman referenced the strategies of other countries, such as Donald Trump’s plan to establish a protective shield around the US. He announced a significant investment of one billion pounds into integrated air and missile defense, hinting at a potential space defense component similar to America’s “Golden Dome.”
Germany’s defense minister, Boris Pistorius, issued a similar caution recently, revealing that Russia was tracking their military satellites. Pistorius warned of the rapid advancements in space warfare capabilities by both Russia and China in recent years.
At a space industry conference in Berlin, the minister emphasized the vulnerability of satellite networks, stating that disrupting satellite operations could cripple entire countries. He highlighted the evolving nature of conflicts, projecting that future battles will extend beyond Earth into orbit.
