“Manhattan S4-R Challenges Sky Q with Free TV Recorder”

Sky Q, a popular TV device in the UK, has been a household favorite for over a decade, known for its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. Despite its longevity, Sky Q now faces competition from the new Manhattan S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder.

Manhattan’s latest offering, the S4-R, is similar to Sky Q in functionality, utilizing a dish to transmit programming and providing storage for recordings. Notably, the S4-R does not require any subscription fees after purchase and offers access to over 100 free TV and radio channels, making it an attractive option for those seeking entertainment without additional expenses.

Equipped with a 500GB hard drive, the S4-R can record multiple channels simultaneously, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions planned for release. The device also features live TV controls akin to Sky Q, enabling users to pause and rewind broadcasts.

The S4-R boasts an intuitive interface, search capabilities, and access to a vast library of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. According to Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, the S4-R enhances recording capabilities, allowing up to four programs to be recorded concurrently, double the previous limit.

Positioned as a compelling alternative to subscription-based TV services, the Manhattan S4-R emphasizes flexibility, choice, and cost-effectiveness. The S4-R is set to launch this month and will be available at retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds, with pricing starting at £219.99 for the 500GB model, escalating to £249.99 for the 1TB variant in May, and reaching £279.99 for the 2TB model in June.
