President Donald Trump’s State Visit to the UK has sparked controversy this week. However, for King Charles, it presents an opportunity to reunite with his friend and penpal, Melania Trump.
The unexpected pair initially connected during Charles’s visit to the United States in 2005, establishing a friendship that has endured over the years through correspondence.
Insiders suggest that a mutual concern for the environment has strengthened the bond between the King and the First Lady. Charles, a devoted advocate for nature, shares this passion with Melania.
Detailing her connection with the monarch in her memoir, Melania disclosed an “ongoing correspondence with King Charles III,” noting that she and her spouse continue to exchange letters with him regularly.
Their conversations often revolve around common interests such as architecture, gardens, and the arts.
Known for his handwritten letters, Charles frequently communicates with politicians, celebrities, and ordinary individuals alike. According to royal sources, the King finds solace and significance in the act of letter-writing.
The Trumps touched down in London on Tuesday aboard Air Force One, where they were greeted by Warren Stephens, the US ambassador to the UK, and Viscount Hood, King Charles’s lord-in-waiting.
Their official schedule commences on Wednesday morning with a reception by the Prince and Princess of Wales, followed by a formal welcome from King Charles and Queen Camilla. Subsequently, the Trumps and the royal family will proceed through Windsor in a carriage procession escorted by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
Similar to his actions during the previous state visit, Trump will review the Guard of Honour and witness a march past. It was on a previous occasion during the Guard of Honour when Trump inadvertently walked ahead of the late queen in 2018.
