Crocodile attacks claim lives in Eastern India

In a terrifying incident, a crocodile seized a 57-year-old woman while she was bathing in the Kharasrota River in Eastern India. Shocking video footage captured the reptile dragging the victim through the water as onlookers watched in horror. Despite frantic rescue efforts by villagers and authorities, the woman, identified as Soudamini Mahala, could not be saved.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred on a Monday afternoon when the woman was suddenly pulled into the river by the crocodile. Prompt responses from local police and fire department teams led to a search operation in the river, but as of Tuesday, the woman’s body remains missing.

Describing the tragic event, a local police spokesperson mentioned that the woman was bathing in the river when the crocodile dragged her into the strong current, and despite attempts by villagers to intervene, they were unsuccessful in rescuing her. Naba Kishore Mahala, an eyewitness, recounted the harrowing moment when they witnessed the crocodile dragging the woman and tried to assist, albeit in vain.

Authorities are actively searching the river and cautioning residents to be vigilant around water bodies known for crocodile presence. A viral video capturing the distressing incident has sparked concern among the public regarding river safety.

This unfortunate incident follows another tragic crocodile attack in India where a mother-of-three lost her life. The woman’s partially consumed body was discovered on a riverbank a day after the attack occurred on September 19. Eyewitnesses shared that locals attempted to rescue her as the crocodile attacked while she was fishing, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The victim, identified as Laxmi Dalei, was attacked by the crocodile in the Gobari River near Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha, India. The Brahmani River, home to 1,826 saltwater crocodiles, poses risks to individuals entering the waters. Officials emphasize that public safety can be maintained if people refrain from entering crocodile-inhabited areas to prevent such tragic incidents.
