Thousands of households have a limited time left to secure £100 in supermarket vouchers before the deadline approaches. Nottingham City Council is administering these vouchers through the Household Support Fund, with applications closing at midnight. While specific eligibility criteria have not been disclosed, it is anticipated that individuals with low incomes or receiving benefits will qualify. Interested parties can submit their applications on the Nottingham City Council website.
The council aims to notify applicants via email by December 12, but the actual distribution of vouchers may extend until February 28, 2026. The allocation of 10,000 vouchers will be done randomly among successful households, allowing those who previously received a voucher from the council in April 2025 to reapply.
Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People, and Education at the Council, expressed satisfaction with the additional £1 million in support allocated for Nottingham’s most vulnerable residents to assist with winter expenses. The Household Support Fund, part of a larger funding pool of £742 million for local councils across England, aids households in covering essential living costs including energy bills and food.
For households facing financial challenges, seeking assistance from local councils is recommended. Various councils, such as Wakefield Council, are providing support through initiatives like food vouchers for low-income households. Pensioners already receiving Council Tax Support were granted a £70 voucher in November, and additional vouchers are scheduled for distribution to other eligible households.
Furthermore, families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15, while other qualifying households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12. Blackpool Council is also offering energy assistance of £200 to eligible households of one or two individuals, with larger households of three or more individuals, including children, receiving £300.
To access this support, individuals must be experiencing financial hardship and struggling to meet their financial obligations. Providing recent bank statements for all household members is necessary for the application process.
