“Severe Weather Hits Greece, Floods Popular Destination”

Holidaymakers from Britain are dealing with the aftermath of severe weather conditions that caused significant damage to a popular destination, resulting in flooded houses and cars floating in the water.

Images capturing the havoc in Greece have been circulating on social media as locals rush to salvage belongings before the next round of storms hits. On the island of Corfu, a British family found their car stranded on a dirt track until local emergency services arrived to rescue them.

In other areas like Oiniades, Aitoliko, and Nechori, heavy flooding and landslides have left residents and tourists stranded, with roads impassable, complicating rescue operations. Schools in Zakynthos and Rhodes closed to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the harsh weather conditions.

In Athens, workers and students enjoyed an extended weekend due to a holiday celebration, as authorities encouraged people to stay indoors during the stormy weather. Greece is preparing for another 48 hours of challenging weather, with forecasts predicting hailstorms and heavy rain until Friday morning.

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias warned of severe thunderstorms, gale-force winds, temperature drops, and even snow on Mount Kaimaktsalan. The upcoming days are expected to bring strong storms, powerful winds, and falling temperatures across the country.

Parts of western and northern Greece, as well as the eastern Aegean region, are expected to experience particularly severe weather conditions with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Additionally, gale-force winds are forecasted in the Ionian and southern Aegean seas, with light snow expected at the Kaimaktsalan ski resort.

Following recent flash floods, Western Macedonia is bracing for snowfall, while Thrace, the Aegean region, and Crete are anticipating heavy rainfall and storms. Apart from Greece, Italy and Spain also faced intense Mediterranean storms earlier in the week.

The island of Ibiza was put on a red alert due to extreme danger as Storm Gabrielle swept over the Balearics, leading to the deployment of troops and rescue operations to assist those affected by flooding and other storm-related incidents.
