A woman from the UK is devastated following the death of her husband during a luxurious family vacation in the Canary Islands due to a salmonella infection. Leslie Green, aged 70, fell seriously ill while staying at the upscale Occidental Jandia Playa resort in Fuerteventura, during a holiday celebrating his milestone birthday. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his passing after developing complications, including sepsis and kidney failure, about four weeks later.
His wife of 38 years, Julie, also contracted salmonella and became seriously ill, spending a week in the hospital. She fell ill a week after her husband’s illness began, coincidentally on her 60th birthday. The couple suspected that the food they consumed at the resort might have been the cause of their illnesses, citing lukewarm carbonara sauce and undercooked chicken as potential culprits.
Julie, a retired NHS assistant nurse, expressed deep sorrow over the turn of events, mentioning that their holiday took a tragic turn when Leslie’s health started to decline. She vividly described the anguish of witnessing her husband’s deteriorating health in the hospital, highlighting his gentle nature and their plans for a fulfilling retirement that were abruptly cut short by the devastating events.
Their daughters were deeply impacted by the situation, with one flying out to support her parents during the challenging time. Another woman who fell ill at the same resort also sought legal assistance after being diagnosed with salmonella. Legal representatives are investigating the matter, emphasizing the severity and potential complications of salmonella infections.
The lawyer representing Julie stressed the importance of addressing any issues identified during the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future. Holidaymakers planning to visit the resort were advised to take caution, and support was offered to anyone with concerns about their experiences at the resort.
