“Stay Warm and Save Money with This Clever Heating Tip”

A tip from a British Gas energy expert suggests a clever way to heat your home without turning on the central heating. Smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron recommends leaving the oven door open after cooking to utilize the residual heat escaping from the appliance.

According to Jessica, instead of closing the oven door after cooking, keeping it open allows the heat to slowly warm up your kitchen, providing additional warmth while you eat. However, caution is advised to keep children and pets away from the open oven door.

British Gas also offers advice on winter home preparation, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. Additionally, it is recommended to bleed radiators regularly and ensure timely boiler servicing for efficient heating.

As temperatures drop across the UK, yellow warnings for snow and ice have been issued in various regions. In Scotland, a yellow warning is in place for Wednesday, while parts of England and Wales will experience snow from Thursday evening to Friday midday.

With energy bills on the rise, households are advised to monitor their energy usage. The typical annual cost for gas and electricity for households on direct debit payment has reached £1,758 due to recent price increases. The price cap regulates unit rates and standing charges but does not set a total cap on energy costs, which still depend on usage.

For those on pre-payment meters or bill payment, the yearly cost has risen to £1,711 and £1,894, respectively. The price cap is updated quarterly, with the next revision scheduled for April 2026.
