Vladimir Putin faced embarrassment when one of his top propagandists inadvertently disclosed a top-secret military location through a toilet sign. The blunder came from Vladimir Solovyov, a chief TV propagandist, who unintentionally revealed the whereabouts of Russia’s elite drone unit. Experts were able to pinpoint the secret location at the Patriot Exhibition Centre near Moscow, leading to a significant embarrassment for Putin amidst his ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The exposed site, known as the Rubicon HQ, has already been targeted by Ukrainian drones and may face further attacks following this revelation. Solovyov, a highly-paid state TV propagandist, failed to conceal the identifying toilet signs in a report about Rubicon, exposing critical information.
Open-source intelligence (OSINT) researchers successfully identified Colonel Sergei Budnikov as the head of Rubicon, a center specializing in advanced unmanned technologies. A local report detailed how the unmasked toilet sign in Solovyov’s report inadvertently disclosed the secret location, causing a ripple of concern.
The exposure of Rubicon poses a challenge to Putin’s defense minister, Andrei Belousov, who was instrumental in its development. The center is pivotal in the development, testing, and deployment of new drones and plays a crucial role on the front lines of the conflict.
Solovyov’s recent controversies include threats against British RAF pilots and spreading false information about France’s military actions, further adding to his contentious reputation. Western warplanes have been deployed to safeguard Poland in response to Putin’s recent provocations in the region.
