Carley Fortune, a renowned writer of romantic novels, has shared that her upcoming book titled “Only in Summer” is scheduled for release on May 18, 2027. This novel revisits the familiar setting of Barry’s Bay, Ont., where her previous works “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer” were also based, and a place that holds sentimental value as her hometown.
Expressing her excitement, Fortune revealed in a newsletter that she recently acquired a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-standing dream since parting with her family lake house. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, coincidentally shares a similar aspiration in the story.
Eleanor, known as Ellie, is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay novels, having grown up in the same town with a desire to own property there. Upon achieving her goal, Ellie is surprised to find out that a neighboring house is being torn down to make way for a grand residence, setting the stage for potential romantic encounters by the lakeside.
Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a background in editing for publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her literary repertoire includes works such as “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was notably a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, supported by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking a significant milestone as the first romance novel featured on the show. Furthermore, the adaptation of “Every Summer After” into the series “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video and the forthcoming Netflix Canada adaptation of “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode production showcase the expanding reach of Fortune’s storytelling.
The latest developments in Carley Fortune’s literary journey can be explored in her upcoming novel “Only in Summer,” promising a blend of nostalgia, aspiration, and perhaps an unexpected love story against the backdrop of a lakeside paradise.
