“Manhattan S4-R: Sky Q-Style Box Sans Monthly Fees”

A new device, the Manhattan S4-R set-top box, is gaining popularity at Argos as a Sky Q-style upgrade for homes without the burden of monthly fees. This device, launched recently, offers features similar to Sky’s premium service, enabling users to record programs, pause live TV, and store content on its internal hard drive.

The standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R is its cost-saving advantage. Unlike Sky Q, which entails ongoing monthly payments, the Manhattan S4-R grants access to over 100 channels without any additional fees post-purchase. This is made possible through its compatibility with Freesat, utilizing existing satellite dishes to deliver a range of free TV channels like BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, and more.

With a user-friendly interface, built-in search functionality, and access to a vast library of on-demand content, the Manhattan S4-R caters to diverse entertainment needs. Supported apps include BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. While it may not match Sky Q in premium sports and movie offerings, the Freesat service stands out for its cost-free viewing experience.

Available for purchase at £219.99 from retailers such as Argos and Amazon, the Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is already in high demand, as indicated by its “in demand” and “selling fast” status on Argos. Additionally, larger 1TB and 2TB versions are set to hit the market soon, catering to varying storage needs.

Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a subscription-free experience with enhanced recording capabilities through the S4-R. Targeted at households seeking a budget-friendly alternative to subscription TV services, the S4-R allows up to four simultaneous recordings, a significant improvement over the previous two-channel limit.

In a similar vein, the Pleio puck has entered the market as another disruptor to traditional TV services, offering free streaming access to over 50 live channels without the need for an aerial. After experiencing initial stock shortages, the Pleio puck is now back in stock, priced at £99.99 and includes a gaming controller along with access to 200 online games.

Sky, on the other hand, has announced a 20% price reduction ahead of the upcoming World Cup. The Sky Glass Air TV now starts from £4.50 per month, with the elevated Sky Glass Gen 2 model featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar starting from £11 per month.
