“Freely Emerges as Strong Competitor in UK TV Market”

The television market in the UK continues to be dominated by Sky and Freeview, delivering content to millions of households. However, a strong competitor, Freely, emerged in 2024 and has quickly gained popularity with over one million households switching to the platform.

Since its inception, Freely has enhanced its features and expanded its TV guide with more than 50 live channels accessible without the need for antennas or satellite dishes.

Freely has recently introduced its new offering, the Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment to homes at no extra cost. These channels can be streamed solely through a standard Wi-Fi connection and will be available on channel 31, as well as channels 90 to 99, including CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices.

V (formerly VIDAA), the developer of the VIDAA OS smart TV platform in Hisense televisions, is the launch partner for the Freely Spotlight Channels, curating a selection of channels for the Freely TV Guide.

These new channels will be integrated alongside established UK broadcasters in the TV guide, giving selected channels more visibility and credibility within the regulated UK TV landscape.

While specific content details have not been disclosed yet, further information is expected closer to the launch. Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, expressed the company’s commitment to providing long-term value and opportunities for partners while ensuring free, trusted TV content remains easily accessible to UK audiences in the digital streaming era.

For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is managed by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, offering content solely through a broadband connection, eliminating the need for traditional antennas or satellite dishes. To access Freely, households require a compatible TV or set-top box and a reliable Wi-Fi connection.

The platform currently provides over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live TV.
