“Fatal Deceit: Woman Poisons Boyfriend with Eye Drops”

A woman convicted of poisoning her boyfriend with eye drops faces a lifetime in prison after her deceitful actions were exposed. Marcy L. Oglesby, 53, has been imprisoned for slowly killing her partner and leaving his body in a storage unit. She received a 50-year sentence for murder and aggravated battery, with credit for 326 days in pretrial detention.

This verdict concludes a tumultuous legal saga that began when Oglesby murdered her boyfriend, Richard “Rick” Young, a former police chief, in the fall of 2021. Prosecutors highlighted that she not only took his life but also made him suffer by poisoning him.

Young’s remains were found in October 2022 in a storage unit rented by Oglesby. Despite legal challenges that initially complicated the case, upgraded charges were reinstated in November 2023 after more evidence emerged.

Detective Gregory Jennings revealed that a woman named Karen Doubet, who lived with the couple, initially misled investigators about the death. Doubet later confessed that Oglesby had poisoned Young over a year with eye drops and crushed medication.

Subsequent investigations uncovered discarded eye drop bottles and incriminating evidence in the couple’s home. Despite Oglesby’s denial and fabricated story about Young’s death, forensic reports confirmed the presence of eye drop ingredients in his body.

In exchange for cooperating against Oglesby, murder charges against Doubet were dropped. The court ultimately found Oglesby guilty after a bench trial, rejecting her claims of innocence during sentencing. Oglesby’s acts of poisoning began in the summer of 2021 and ceased by early November of that year.
