Ex-NYPD Officers Save Woman and Baby from East River

In New York City, ex-police officers rescued a woman with a 5-month-old baby from the East River in a daring incident on a Sunday morning in late October. The woman had waded into the river, submerging herself up to her neck with the infant.

The heroic rescue was narrated by retired officer Kevin O’Donnell and his colleague Paul Pinsdorf, both former members of the NYPD. O’Donnell described hearing screams and a call for help, prompting them to rush to the scene during their volunteer work at a local event.

Pinsdorf swiftly took action as the baby’s head was nearly underwater, recalling the urgency of the situation. Despite the woman’s resistance, he managed to reach her and bring both her and the child to safety.

O’Donnell commended Pinsdorf as the true hero for his swift and decisive actions in rescuing the woman and the baby from the river. The rescue was challenging due to communication barriers, but emergency services promptly arrived to aid in the extraction of the pair from the water.

Following the rescue, the woman was taken to North Shore University Hospital, while the baby was transported to New York Presbyterian. The NYPD is yet to confirm the relationship between the woman and the infant or her motives for entering the river.
