In his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote has utilized a wide array of gadgets from the Acme Corporation. However, a new perspective questions whether the constant failures are due to the corporation’s production of faulty items like the “Instant Tunnel” and the “Do-It-Yourself Tornado Kit.”
This concept forms the basis of the movie “Coyote vs. Acme,” where the protagonist seeks legal action against Acme for the physical harm he has endured using their products. The film, initially shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 as a tax write-off, is now set to premiere in theaters this Friday after independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights.
To honor the film’s theme, we have compiled a list of our favorite anti-capitalist movies from the past four decades:
“RoboCop” (1987) envisions a future where a corporation controls the police force, leading to a conflict between man and machine.
“They Live” (1988) follows a man who discovers hidden messages from aliens promoting consumption and conformity.
“Fight Club” (1999) explores anti-capitalist sentiments through underground fighting and rebellion against consumer culture.
“Michael Clayton” (2007) exposes corporate cover-ups and the lengths they go to protect their interests.
“WALL-E” (2008) portrays a future where consumerism has destroyed Earth, forcing humans to live on a spaceship run by a corporate giant.
“Sorry to Bother You” (2018) delves into the world of telemarketing and unveils the dark secrets of a conglomerate.
“How to Blow Up a Pipeline” (2022) follows a group aiming to challenge the fossil fuel industry through direct action.
Each film provides a unique perspective on the negative impacts of capitalism on society, urging viewers to reconsider the consequences of unchecked corporate power.
