“BT Broadband Customers in for Mobile Treats”

UK households connected to BT Broadband will soon experience a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to re-enter the UK market. This move comes after a pause in new customer sign-ups in 2023, when the company focused on its EE network brand. However, there has been a notable shift in strategy now, with BT announcing that existing broadband customers will have access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.

While specific details are yet to be disclosed, this reintroduction reflects BT’s commitment to reinforcing the presence of its well-established brand, which took a backseat to EE in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is determined to revitalize BT’s standing among UK households, aiming to prevent the brand from losing public recognition.

Kirkby expressed during an event at Wembley that following significant investments in their networks, the time has come to further enhance their brands, products, and services. This relaunch will position BT in direct competition with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as popular budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.

Although pricing details have not been unveiled yet, BT plans to offer bundled services including broadband, landline, and mobile SIM under a single package and monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore viewed this move as an effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecoms market.

Pescatore emphasized the importance of execution, stating that while ambition is crucial, the network’s ability to meet real-world demands at scale will determine its success. Additionally, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be held across Britain and Ireland.

Pescatore highlighted the significance of this partnership, emphasizing the role of sports in uniting nations and creating shared experiences that foster emotional connections. He noted that the UEFA Euro 2028 deal serves as a platform to showcase scale, relevance, and efficient service delivery, aligning with BT’s broader vision of reconnecting with users, households, and businesses.
