“Boy Escapes Near-Fatal Fire After Charging Cable Mishap”

A young boy, aged nine, narrowly escaped a life-threatening incident at his residence when his charging cable got entangled with a metal chain around his neck, leading to a fire outbreak.

The alarming event occurred on October 19 when Laura Morrow was jolted awake at 5 am by the distressing sight of her son, Ashtyn Pitts, suffering severe burns on his neck and left hand in Jena, Louisiana. His cries for help alerted his parents, prompting them to rush him to the emergency room before transferring him to the LSU-Oschner Burn Unit in Shreveport.

While asleep, Ashtyn’s necklace accidentally intertwined with his charging cable, causing a dangerous situation. In light of this incident, his mother issued a heartfelt plea to fellow mothers who charge their tablets in bed.

As described by his mother Lauren Morrow on Facebook, Pitts was sleeping adjacent to his charger, connected to an extension cord. Sometime during the night, a slight detachment at the connection point allowed the necklace to come into contact with the charger’s prongs.

The traumatic episode left a lasting impact as Pitts vividly recalled the moment of the incident, mentioning a loud bang, his panic, and the ensuing rush for help with his family.

The burns inflicted on Pitts were so severe that the chain’s pattern got imprinted and scorched into his neck, highlighting the intensity of the accident. Following his hospitalization, Morrow was overwhelmed by her son’s agony and the harrowing realization that they could have faced a tragic loss.

Expressing her deep emotions, Morrow recounted her distress, emphasizing the close call they experienced and the possibility of a different outcome. Fortunately, Ashtyn is currently in stable condition and is anticipated to fully recover from the ordeal.
