Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband package to an all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale that has reduced the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
This particular broadband plan offers lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails for £29.99 per month. However, customers can now snatch it up for just £26.99, resulting in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract. This discount translates to roughly 87p per day.
Virgin Media claims that this promotion marks the “lowest ever price” for the Gig1 plan. With these exceptional speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience over 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin Media’s high-speed connection ensures seamless streaming on platforms like Netflix and smooth online gaming experiences.
It’s worth noting that the reduced rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so it’s advisable to verify availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Compared to competitors like Sky and BT, Virgin’s Gig1 Fibre Broadband deal stands out for its affordability and superior speeds. Sky’s equivalent 900Mbps plan, even after a price reduction to £28, remains more expensive than Virgin’s offer. Meanwhile, BT charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.
For those seeking alternatives, Community Fibre currently provides 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this service is limited to London and select south-east regions.
It’s essential for consumers to assess their speed requirements before committing to a lengthy contract. While a couple streaming Netflix daily may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming should consider speeds of at least 300Mbps. Choosing Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly to your home, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted online experience.
