“Ex-boyfriend’s Drone Surveillance Leads to Suspended Sentence”

An ex-boyfriend, Dominic Williams, caused distress to his former girlfriend through his controlling actions, including using a drone to surveil her. Williams, 33, tracked his ex-partner and sabotaged clothing he disapproved of, as revealed in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court.

Despite the relationship ending a year ago, Williams refused to acknowledge the breakup, resorting to monitoring and threatening behavior. He only admitted guilt on the day of trial and received a suspended 12-month prison sentence, 20 days of rehabilitation, and 80 hours of community work, along with financial penalties.

The court heard from prosecutor Millie Evans that the relationship was tumultuous, marked by Williams’ controlling and jealous conduct, which often involved verbal abuse and property damage. Williams even went as far as secretly obtaining keys to the victim’s property and placing a tracking device on her car.

Williams also sent explicit images of unknown women to the victim, falsely insinuating she was involved. The victim described feeling intimidated and trapped by Williams’ unpredictable actions, leading to significant emotional distress and weight loss.

During the court proceedings, Williams claimed innocence regarding violent behavior and stalking, attributing misunderstandings to the toxic nature of the relationship. Despite his remorseful tone, the court considered the prolonged period of fear and distress inflicted on the victim.

In response to the verdict, Williams expressed regret for the situation but also defended his actions, highlighting personal consequences like losing his home and business if imprisoned. The court condemned Williams’ behavior and issued a stern sentence, acknowledging the severity of his actions and the impact on the victim.
