Icelandic Phallological Museum Tops EasyJet’s Quirky Museum List

Europe’s quirkiest museum, the Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavik, known for its collection of over 300 penises and penile parts, has been named the top museum by British voters in an easyJet survey. The museum secured 25% of the public vote, surpassing the Sewer Museum in Paris, which came in second with 19%. Other notable entries in the top 20 list included the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, and the Torture Museum in Amsterdam.

In a survey of 2,000 Brits by easyJet, it was revealed that 88% of respondents expressed interest in a cultural city break with a unique twist. This growing curiosity has led to 79% of Brits booking trips specifically to visit quirky museums or art galleries. Moreover, 81% of respondents shared that visiting one of the museums listed by easyJet is on their travel bucket list.

The study also showed that 22% of holidaymakers prefer exploring unconventional attractions during city breaks, while 84% are willing to pay extra for novel cultural experiences. Notably, one-third of Brits find visiting unusual museums more enjoyable than traditional landmarks.

Interestingly, 80% of Gen Z participants indicated they would be more inclined to visit a quirky museum if they had seen it on social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, emphasized that autumn presents an ideal opportunity for cultural city breaks, encouraging travelers to seek new and unique experiences.
