A man has been apprehended by the police for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old daughter due to her desire to marry someone from a different caste, authorities revealed. The man reportedly shot his daughter and then disposed of her body in a river after concealing it in a tarpaulin bag weighted with stones.
Law enforcement officials were alerted by a neighbor who noticed the teenager’s disappearance on September 23. The neighbor reported hearing gunshots and screams emanating from the man’s residence on that day. The girl’s body was discovered two days after she went missing.
Upon investigation, the man gave evasive responses that raised suspicions. Subsequently, he confessed to the crime after being taken into custody. The incident transpired following a heated argument about the girl’s intention to pursue a relationship outside her caste.
Allegations suggest that the accused murdered the girl in front of her younger sister, wrapped her body in a tarpaulin sack, attached a stone to it, and discarded it in a river near his ancestral village. The body underwent a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Preliminary findings indicate that the girl’s wish to wed a boy from a different caste led to the fatal confrontation. Despite attempts to dissuade her, she remained steadfast in her decision, prompting her father’s violent reaction.
This tragic event follows a similar case where a father in Pakistan confessed to killing his 15-year-old daughter for not ceasing her TikTok activities. Anwar ul-Haq, who had relocated his family from the US to Pakistan, was charged with murder after admitting to shooting his daughter in Quetta.
Initially, ul-Haq blamed unidentified individuals for the shooting, but later admitted to the crime, citing objections to his daughter’s online behavior as the motive. The family disapproved of her attire, lifestyle, and social interactions, prompting suspicions of an honor-related killing.
