The Met Office has advised residents in 15 areas to prepare “emergency” kits due to upcoming weather conditions. Yellow weather warnings have been issued for parts of Wales by the Met Office, with up to 70mm of rainfall expected in some regions.
The initial yellow rain warning covers an area from Cardiff to Tenby and up to Merthyr Tydfil, lasting from 6am to 11pm the following day. Southwest Wales is likely to experience persistent and heavy rain throughout the day, with 30 to 40mm of rainfall expected widely and up to 50 to 70mm in the most affected regions.
Residents are urged to assess the risk of flooding to their properties and consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit as a precaution. The Met Office recommends preparing for potential power cuts by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities.
A second warning for north-west Wales is in effect from 3am to 12pm, predicting 30 to 40mm of rainfall across the region, with localized areas receiving up to 50 to 60mm within a six-hour period.
Wednesday’s forecast indicates a wet start for many parts of the UK, especially in the west, with conditions gradually improving in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England while remaining breezy overall.
Unsettled weather is expected over the weekend, with windy and rainy conditions likely. Rain showers will persist across the country into the following week, accompanied by strong winds in some areas.
Looking ahead, a Met Office spokesperson mentioned a potential northwest-southeast weather divide next week, with southern and eastern regions likely to experience more rain or showers. Colder temperatures are expected as a northerly flow establishes, leading to drier and settled conditions later on, with temperatures gradually returning to normal levels.
