Gail’s has officially announced that ten of its bakery outlets will be operational on Christmas Day. The upscale bakery chain also disclosed that complimentary mince pies will be offered to customers visiting these establishments on December 25. All Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
Through a post on Instagram, Gail’s stated: “If you find yourself out and about on Christmas Day, a few of our bakeries will be open. A cozy spot for a cup of coffee, a fresh loaf, or a friendly face on a serene morning. And if you drop by, we’ll gift you a mince pie as a token of appreciation for spending part of your day with us (while supplies last).”
Acknowledging the diverse ways in which people observe Christmas, Gail’s mentioned that their teams make decisions based on what works best for them each year.
In other news, Gail’s unveiled plans to launch 40 new stores across England, including locations beyond London. The company expanded by 36 cafes in the previous fiscal year, introducing its first branches in the south west of England. The upcoming 40 stores are expected to be operational by the conclusion of February 2026.
According to the latest financial report, Gail’s recorded total sales of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year. However, pre-tax losses surged to £7.8 million from £7.4 million due to business expenses and staffing costs related to new store openings.
As of February, Gail’s employed over 4,000 staff, approximately 500 more than the previous year following a recruitment campaign. The company’s wholesale division supplies baked goods to various retail outlets and supermarkets such as Waitrose and Ocado.
The price of Gail’s sourdough loaf starts at around £4.80. The company highlighted that its bakery segment is the faster-growing and more profitable sector within the organization, emphasizing the importance of providing innovative, high-quality food in appealing local bakery settings.
A spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the strong year-on-year growth, attributing it to the rising demand for high-quality, nutrient-dense food and the continued support from the communities they serve. The company reiterated its commitment to purposeful growth and enhancing access to nutritious food.
