George Galloway Detained under Terrorism Act at Gatwick

George Galloway was reportedly detained under the Terrorism Act upon his return from Moscow. Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officers stopped the former Member of Parliament and his wife at Gatwick Airport today. The couple had flown back to the UK from Abu Dhabi after their trip to Moscow.

Authorities confirmed that the man in his 70s and the woman in her 40s were detained under Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019 but were not arrested. They were later allowed to continue their travels. Schedule 3 permits police to question, detain, and search individuals at UK entry points to ascertain any involvement in “hostile activity.”

Following his defeat in the 2024 election, Galloway announced his intention to run for the Scottish Parliament in Nicola Sturgeon’s Glasgow Southside constituency. The Workers Party of Britain, led by Galloway, criticized the detention as “politically motivated intimidation.”

The Workers Party expressed concern over the lack of information about Galloway and his wife’s condition and rights during the detention, noting the absence of charges or alleged offenses. They urged supporters to demand the immediate release of their leaders.
