Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against his scheduled opponent, Gervonta Davis. The accusations include battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend of Davis.
Despite the controversy, the exhibition fight between Paul and Davis is set to take place in Miami on November 14. The match, although not part of their official records, will have a declared winner through stoppage or decision by judges and an AI official if it goes the distance.
Amid calls for the fight’s cancellation due to the accusations against Davis, rumors circulated that Paul might consider Ryan Garcia as a replacement. However, Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company, clarified that no decision has been made yet.
The statement from Most Valuable Promotions emphasized their immediate investigation into the civil lawsuit filed against Davis and their commitment to thoroughly reviewing the situation before making any decisions. They condemned violence and assured a respectful handling of the matter, indicating that further comments would be withheld until the review process is completed.
While Davis has not responded to the allegations directly, his trainer dismissed them as baseless. The lawsuit alleges that Davis assaulted his ex-partner at her workplace and had made threats against her life. The ex-partner is seeking damages and a jury trial.
Regarding a potential replacement opponent for Paul, Oscar De La Hoya announced that a fight with Ryan Garcia is not feasible due to contractual obligations with different platforms. Paul’s return to the ring may be postponed to December, with previous links to heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua unlikely to materialize on short notice.
