Ferrari’s president, John Elkann, recently criticized Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc following a disappointing Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Elkann advised the drivers to concentrate on their driving rather than engaging in excessive talk. Both Hamilton and Leclerc failed to secure any points in the race and had to retire due to separate incidents.
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship team celebrated victory at the Eight Hours of Bahrain. The trio of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Giovinazzi, and James Calado clinched the drivers’ title, with Ferrari leading by 74 points in the manufacturers’ standings.
The Formula 1 season has been challenging for Ferrari, particularly for Hamilton, who has struggled to adapt. Elkann emphasized that Ferrari’s issues go beyond the drivers, as Leclerc has also faced difficulties securing a Grand Prix win.
Despite winning the WEC title, Elkann expressed disappointment over Ferrari’s performance in Formula 1. He highlighted the exceptional work of the mechanics and engineers but criticized other aspects, urging the drivers to focus more on driving and less on talking.
Currently positioned fourth in the constructors’ championship, Ferrari is yet to claim a Grand Prix victory in 2025, unlike Mercedes and Red Bull who have surpassed them in recent weeks.
Hamilton, who finished 13th in the Sao Paulo race before retiring, expressed his frustration but vowed to bounce back stronger in the upcoming races. Leclerc acknowledged the team’s challenging position in the constructors’ championship and emphasized the need for impeccable performance in the remaining races.
