“Virgin Media to Upgrade Broadband Routers for Faster Wi-Fi”

Virgin Media is set to provide some broadband customers with an upgrade to their home routers, offering improved performance and faster, more reliable connections. Users still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will have the opportunity to switch to the newer Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology.

Eligible customers will be contacted by email in the upcoming weeks and months as the gradual rollout of the upgrade progresses throughout 2026. The Hub 5, Virgin Media’s latest router, features Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas for enhanced coverage within homes.

Virgin Media advises customers to wait for direct communication regarding their eligibility for the upgrade. Alternatively, users can check their router model by examining the sticker on the device or logging into the Virgin Media Connect app.

The upgrade to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance broadband experiences by providing wider Wi-Fi coverage, increased stability, and support for future updates. It is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, allowing for quicker downloads and streaming. Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless networking technology, offers faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in busy environments, accommodating more connected devices and higher data demands.

While Wi-Fi 7 technology is also available, Wi-Fi 6 remains ideal for the average user due to its energy efficiency and performance benefits.
