Britons are advised to gather three crucial items as a severe weather warning, labeled as a “danger to life,” has been issued for 49 locations. The United Kingdom is bracing for an intense storm with a yellow warning in effect from 8 p.m. on Sunday until 6 p.m. the next day. A low-pressure system originating from the Atlantic is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds, primarily affecting western and southern coastal areas. The Met Office cautioned of a potential risk of injuries and peril from airborne debris.
The national weather agency has provided guidance for residents in the regions under the yellow warning, highlighting a possibility of power outages. To prepare for such scenarios, individuals are encouraged to assemble three essential items in advance, including torches with batteries, a portable phone charger, and other necessary supplies. Additionally, residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences to prevent property damage and potential injuries.
The Met Office emphasized the importance of staying cautious near coastal areas, warning about the risk of large waves causing accidents. Individuals are urged to remain vigilant, especially when walking near cliffs, and keep dogs on a leash. In case of emergencies, the public is advised to contact 999 and request assistance from the Coastguard.
Paul Gundersen, the chief meteorologist at the Met Office, mentioned the monitoring of a deepening low-pressure area in the North Atlantic that could result in impactful weather conditions in the UK, notably on Sunday and Monday. The forecast indicates gusts reaching up to 80mph, with expected windy conditions persisting through Sunday evening into Monday, with the windiest period anticipated on Monday morning and spreading eastward as the day progresses.
