New details have surfaced regarding the tragic death of a skilled trapeze artist who fell to her demise in front of a large audience during a live circus show.
Marina B, a 27-year-old experienced circus entertainer, was engaged in a daring solo act when a fatal accident occurred. While performing at an evening show in Bautzen, Germany, on Saturday around 5:45 pm, Marina tragically lost her grip and fell from a trapeze bar approximately five meters above the ground.
The Spanish artist succumbed to her injuries after the fall, in the presence of an audience comprising about 80-100 individuals, including children and families, attending the Paul Busch Circus performance at the time.
Witnesses at the family-oriented show heard screams as parents shielded their children from the distressing scene inside the tent. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the location, initiating an investigation into the tragic incident.
A notice posted on the circus’s ticket booth on Sunday announced the closure of the circus due to the tragic event. The Paul Busch Circus has not yet released an official statement following the incident.
Marina B, originally from Mallorca and a world-traveling circus performer, took pride in her profession, as evident from her poignant final post on Instagram featuring an image of herself gracefully performing in the air. She captioned the post: “I feel most alive up here.”
In a previous statement, Marina expressed her passion for her work, stating, “Every performance is a chance for me to share my love for what I do. I believe art has the ability to create lasting memories.”
Authorities confirmed that Marina was not using a safety harness at the time of the accident, emphasizing that it was not mandatory for her to do so.
Stefan Heiduck, a police spokesperson, clarified, “There is no legal requirement for her to use a safety harness. She had the autonomy to decide. No one else was present in the ring during the tragic incident.”
Numerous tributes poured in for Marina following the accident, with one admirer expressing, “Rest in peace Marina, sending heartfelt condolences to your family.” Another individual wrote, “We will always cherish the memories we shared with you. Rest peacefully, you will forever remain in our hearts.”
An employee of the circus expressed disbelief, stating to a German newspaper, “We are still in shock over what transpired.” Ralf Huppertz, the head of Germany’s circus association, remarked, “It is uncommon for a skilled artist like Marina to meet such a fate from a relatively low height. It is possible she experienced dizziness while on the trapeze.”
Police spokesperson Heiduck mentioned, “Trained professionals from the crisis intervention team were on-site to assist those in need. Immediate support was provided to guests and other circus staff.”
