A well-known television host met a tragic end while trying to escape an armed robbery in Nigeria. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, 29, passed away on Monday after leaping from the third floor of her apartment building during the break-in, as reported by the authorities.
The TV personality, also known as Sommie, was discovered unconscious by law enforcement officers and quickly taken to a hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries following the fall.
A special police unit has been established to apprehend the suspects responsible for the incident. ARISE News, Somtochukwu’s employer, expressed deep sorrow over the loss in a formal statement.
The statement released by ARISE News conveyed, “With heavy hearts, the management and staff of ARISE News announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, news anchor, reporter, and producer.”
“She tragically lost her life in the early hours of Monday, September 29, during an armed robbery at her home, which is currently under investigation by the authorities.
“She was not only a valued member of the ARISE News team but also a dynamic voice that resonated with and connected to our audience.
“Beyond her on-air presence, she was a lawyer, a skilled professional, and a supportive coworker. She was a friend to many.”
The news outlet extended their sincere sympathies to Somtochukwu’s family and friends.
“We offer our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, relatives, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly challenging period,” the statement added.
“Although Sommie’s voice may be silent now, her spirit, enthusiasm, and legacy will endure as part of our shared memories.”
