“Son Accused of Shooting Mother 11 Times in Sleep”

A young man, aged 20, has been taken into custody and accused of shooting his mother 11 times while she was asleep in their residence. Kevin Marin, a resident of Santa Teresa, Texas, is now facing charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder following his arrest on October 13.

The incident unfolded when authorities in Sunland Park responded to a shooting report at a home on Ashwood Drive. Upon arrival, investigators discovered Marin’s mother in a critical condition, with multiple gunshot wounds, in the hallway outside her son’s room. At the time of the shooting, four other family members, including a child, were also in the house but asleep.

The injured woman was promptly transported to Transmountain Hospital in El Paso and later moved to University Medical Center, where medical professionals confirmed the extent of her injuries, which included 11 gunshot wounds. As of October 14, she remained in critical condition, as reported by The Mirror US.

Currently, Marin is being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Centre while prosecutors advocate for his detention without bond under New Mexico’s pretrial detention statute, according to Law and Crime.

Previously, local news outlet KTSM detailed that police officers in Sunland Park found an active crime scene at a residence on Ashwood Drive around 3 am. Marin’s brother, who was present during the incident, mentioned hearing Marin’s distressed screams late into the night. Both he and their mother reportedly urged Marin to calm down, with law enforcement reports indicating that his behavior was erratic.

The brother recounted that their mother had accompanied Marin to his room and stayed with him. However, in the early hours of the morning, the tranquility was shattered by gunshots emanating from Marin’s bedroom, leading to the shocking discovery of their mother’s injuries.

Upon further investigation at the scene, law enforcement uncovered shell casings from a semi-automatic rifle/carbine in Marin’s room, two bullet holes on the house’s exterior, and blood evidence under a parked Jeep Wrangler. Additionally, a witness who returned to the residence post-incident found Marin nonchalantly seated on the living room sofa.

This tragic event has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
