Sky has recently released a significant update for its popular Glass TVs and Stream boxes, and the best part is that it’s free for all users with these devices. The update, which started rolling out last week, brings several new features, such as the ability to control Sky’s internet-connected devices using a smartphone and set reminders for programs listed in the TV guide.
In addition to these enhancements, the settings menu has been revamped for easier navigation, and new accessibility options have been included, like improved contrast controls for text and backgrounds within Sky apps.
Describing the improvements, the company stated, “Sky’s continuously evolving operating system, Sky OS, has been enhanced to provide Sky Glass and Stream customers with more intelligent ways to manage their TV.”
If you own a Sky Glass TV, Sky Glass Air device, or Sky Stream box, you should already be receiving these updates automatically without the need for any manual intervention.
The latest features now available on your TV include the ability to set reminders for favorite shows. This feature allows users to set reminders for any program in the TV guide, ensuring they never miss important events like a Premier League match or a season finale. By visiting the show page of interest and selecting “Set a reminder,” users can receive notifications when the show starts.
A new feature allows users to control the TV through the digital Sky remote app available on iOS and Android. This app enables users to easily find favorite shows, switch channels, and manage playback functions like play, pause, and skip with just a tap. Additionally, the app offers accessibility features like screen reader support.
Sky has simplified its settings for easier access, eliminating the need for scrolling down by introducing a quick access menu accessible by pressing the three dots on the Sky remote and scrolling right. This menu provides faster navigation to settings related to picture and sound, parental controls, accessibility, and more.
Moreover, several new accessibility features have been introduced, including an upgraded voice guidance experience that allows customers to adjust the voice guidance speed when navigating the UI and favorite apps like Sky Sports, Sky Store, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and RTE.
Other accessibility features include high contrast in Sky apps, magnification mode for zooming up to 400% with remote control support, and Audio Description on demand for Sky on-demand shows, providing an accessible viewing experience similar to that on Sky broadcast channels.
