A 34-year-old mother of two left her family one morning to go shopping but never made it back home.
Renya Gonazales’ husband, a police officer named Bruno Portillo, launched a search for her, unaware of the shocking revelation awaiting him.
Bruno, along with his fellow officers, uncovered a disturbing series of crimes and apprehended a notorious serial killer, whose true identity had remained unsuspected by all.
Operating amid the vibrant nightlife, the serial killer preyed on unsuspecting victims at nightclubs, luring them back to his residence where he would commit heinous acts of murder and cannibalism.
Andres Filomeno Mendoza, a well-respected community member who had even held a leadership position in a local political organization, was finally apprehended at the age of 72 after 20 years of uninterrupted killing and consuming human flesh.
The discovery of Reyna’s dismembered body at Mendoza’s home in Mexico City incited Bruno’s suspicion, leading to a harrowing confrontation that exposed Mendoza’s gruesome deeds.
Upon further investigation, authorities unearthed the remains of numerous victims and evidence tied to multiple unsolved cases of missing women.
Dubbed the “Cannibal of Atizapan,” Mendoza, described as “affable” by neighbors, shocked the community with the ghastly findings in his basement and throughout his residence.
A notebook containing the names of 30 women, along with numerous bones and fragments scattered around the property, revealed the extent of Mendoza’s crimes.
Following his 2021 arrest, authorities confirmed the remains of 19 individuals – 17 women, one child, and one man – linked to Mendoza’s heinous acts.
Mendoza received a life sentence for Reyna’s murder, confessing to consuming portions of his victims, some of whom he targeted after they rejected his advances, with one victim subjected to extreme brutality due to her appearance.
