“Security Personnel Charged in Winnipeg Nightclub Assault”

Three security personnel at a downtown Winnipeg nightclub are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to authorities.

Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being attacked at a downtown nightclub in the early hours of August 3, as reported by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the establishment, were arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings, police revealed in a news release on Thursday.

While the police did not disclose the exact name of the nightclub, they indicated that it was located on Main Street, situated between Portage and William avenues. Allen, in a statement issued by the team on Thursday, confirmed that he has undergone medical evaluations, received a diagnosis, and is currently recuperating at home.

Expressing his sentiments on the assault, Allen stated, “The incident should never have occurred, nor should it happen to anyone for any reason.” He also added, “The resilience in me always surfaces when faced with adversity, and I am determined to rise above this setback.”

Individuals possessing any information related to the incident, including dashcam footage, security recordings, or cellphone videos captured around the time of the assault, are urged to contact the Winnipeg police major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or online via the Crime Stoppers website.

CBC News has attempted to reach out to the Sea Bears for their input on the matter.
