Newborn Baby Abandoned in Cardboard Box: Investigation Underway

Police are currently investigating the case of a newborn baby girl who was discovered abandoned in a cardboard box at the side of a road. The infant, estimated to be just hours old, was found by a passerby around 6:50 am on Wednesday, September 24. She was promptly taken to the hospital where doctors confirmed her good health. The baby’s umbilical cord had already been cut, indicating she was less than a day old.

A video of the distressing scene showed the baby moving inside the box, which had been left on a roadside wall in Tuguegarao City, Philippines. Social worker May Asuncion mentioned that the baby is stable but will be monitored in the hospital for up to five days for further assessment.

Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the quick response of local citizens and authorities, emphasizing the value of every life. The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed determination to identify the person responsible for abandoning the child.

A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of citizen action in saving the baby’s life and urged anyone with information to come forward for justice and the child’s well-being. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to locate the baby’s parents or those accountable for the abandonment.

In a separate incident, a newborn baby was found abandoned with a stone in his mouth and lips sealed shut in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, India. The child, estimated to be between 15 and 20 days old, was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Police suspect the use of glue and a stone was an attempt to silence the baby and are investigating hospital records for leads on the perpetrator.
