An MSNBC political analyst was fired for making inappropriate and insensitive comments regarding the fatal shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Matthew Dowd faced criticism for his remarks during a live TV discussion about Kirk’s death, leading to his dismissal by the network. MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler issued an apology, stating that Dowd’s comments were unacceptable and emphasizing the rejection of violence in any form.
Dowd, a former chief strategist for George W. Bush’s re-election campaign, speculated that a supporter of Kirk might have accidentally fired the fatal shot. He also described Kirk as a divisive figure known for promoting divisive rhetoric targeted at specific groups, linking hateful thoughts to words and actions.
Following backlash over his comments, Dowd issued an apology on Blue Sky, expressing condolences to Kirk’s family and disavowing any intention to blame Kirk for the tragic incident. Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist and close associate of US President Donald Trump, was shot while addressing a crowd at a rally hosted by Turning Point USA, the organization he founded, and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
President Trump hailed Kirk as a “martyr for truth and freedom,” condemning the demonization of political adversaries and attributing Kirk’s assassination to the rhetoric of the radical left. No suspect has been identified, and there are no arrests in connection with the killing. MSNBC has been contacted for a response by the Mirror.
