The mother of a two-year-old boy who was fatally attacked by dogs has shared her experience of the distressing scene she encountered upon returning home from work. Kaimir Jones was discovered deceased in the backyard of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb on Saturday, October 4th.
Adrianna Jones, Kaimir’s mother, revealed that her intuition prompted her to leave work early and check on her son after not hearing from his caregiver for an extended period. She described the scene as heartbreaking, devastating, and traumatizing, expressing her deep sorrow at finding her child in such a state.
The caregiver, from Georgia, was later arrested for operating an unlicensed daycare, where her Rottweilers fatally attacked the toddler while she was napping. Despite being highly recommended, the caregiver failed to prevent the child from wandering out of the house and accessing the kennel housing the dogs.
Authorities stated that Kaimir was the only child under Cobb’s care that day, although her unlicensed daycare typically accommodated up to 10 children. Cobb claimed she believed the child was safe while she napped for a little over two hours.
Valdosta Police Department Chief Leslie Manahan expressed condolences to the family, condemning the tragic event caused by the caregiver’s negligence. Cobb faces charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to children, with the Rottweilers involved in the incident being handed over to Lowndes County Animal Control.
Experts emphasize the importance of never leaving children unsupervised with unfamiliar dogs and advise teaching children to avoid approaching unknown dogs to prevent such tragic incidents.
