“Man Speeds at 107mph to Make Barber Appointment”

Police officers encounter various explanations from speeding drivers, but a recent incident in Palm Coast, Florida, stood out when a man was caught driving his convertible Corvette at 107 miles per hour. The driver, Michael Stanek, was captured on body camera justifying his excessive speed by claiming he had an urgent appointment with his barber.

After being observed weaving through traffic on Interstate 95, Stanek was stopped by a deputy. The footage shows him being handcuffed and questioned about his reckless driving behavior. Despite the officer’s inquiry about his high speed, Stanek simply apologized without providing a substantial reason.

Florida’s ‘super speeder’ law, which deems speeds over 50mph above the limit or exceeding 100mph a criminal offense, led to Stanek’s arrest. The deputy informed Stanek that he would be spending the night in jail for endangering lives by recklessly speeding and weaving through traffic.

In a separate incident, Christopher West, 42, faced court proceedings after fatally hitting 15-year-old Keely Morgan in Cardiff while allegedly speeding in a 30mph zone. West, who had removed the black box from his car, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for causing death by careless driving and driving without insurance, resulting in the voiding of his policy. Keely’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, emphasizing the profound loss they experienced.

During the court session, emotions ran high with outbursts of disbelief, with some of Keely’s family members leaving the courtroom in response to the sentencing.
