Heavy rain led to flash floods in Las Vegas earlier this week, causing some streets to be inundated. Despite the wet weather, the Formula 1 event scheduled for the weekend is expected to proceed as planned. The downpour left standing water in certain areas of the city, as seen in videos shared on social media.
Upon arrival in Las Vegas, reporters observed cars maneuvering through large puddles near Harry Reid International Airport. Such scenes are not uncommon in a city located in the heart of the desert, where sudden rainfalls can result in temporary flooding.
By the next day, the sun was shining again, and most of the standing water had dried up. Although some water remained at the Linq Hotel, where dramatic videos were filmed, the situation had improved significantly.
While rain returned on Wednesday afternoon, causing drivers to use umbrellas during media day activities, it did not create additional standing water on the circuit. More showers are forecasted for Thursday and Friday, but conditions are expected to improve over the weekend, with a dry race anticipated on Saturday night.
Despite concerns about reduced tourism in Las Vegas, ticket prices for the Las Vegas Grand Prix have been slashed, leading to a significant increase in sales compared to the previous year. The event organizers are optimistic about a sell-out and plan to include additional track activities, such as the F1 Academy series finale.
In the championship race, Lando Norris holds a substantial lead over his teammate Oscar Piastri, making him the favorite for the title. Max Verstappen remains in contention but faces a considerable points gap to catch up. Following the Las Vegas race, the season will conclude with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
Additionally, Sky has enhanced its TV and Sky Sports bundle to include various streaming services and comprehensive Formula 1 coverage along with other sports events throughout the season.
