Google to End Chrome Support for Older macOS on MacBooks

Google has announced that it will no longer provide support for Chrome on older versions of Apple’s macOS for MacBook users. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users may become more susceptible to cyber threats as updates and security patches will no longer be available.

Starting July this year, Google will cease Chrome updates for Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. Users on these systems will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to receive browser support. Unfortunately, some Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs purchased before 2018, are incompatible with Ventura, potentially requiring users to acquire new devices to use Chrome securely.

Google’s blog post confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the final release compatible with macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome 151, set for release on July 28, 2026, necessitating macOS 13 Ventura or newer. To receive future Chrome updates, users must ensure their devices run macOS 13 or later.

While older Chrome versions will remain functional, no further updates will be provided for users on outdated operating systems. Google advises users on macOS 12 (Monterey) to transition to a supported macOS version (macOS 13 Ventura or later) to continue receiving the latest security updates and Chrome features.
