Millions of Gmail users will soon have the option to change their email address to something entirely new. Google previously hinted at this update, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. In an update on the Gmail blog page, Google has officially announced that users can switch their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address also ending in gmail.com.
This change could be a valuable improvement, especially for those who wish to alter their username or have experienced changes in their circumstances. However, Google has emphasized an ‘important’ note regarding this new feature.
The ability to change your Google Account email is being gradually introduced to all users, so it may not be immediately available to everyone, as mentioned by the US tech giant.
The new system allows both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that none of their account data will be impacted, and all photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address will remain unchanged.
To check if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing any emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new desired username, ensuring it has not been used before and deleted.
– Click on Change email, then confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions.
Upon completion, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will remain as an alternate email.
