A recent study revealed that over 50% of individuals face unreliable broadband connectivity issues at least twice a month, with many choosing not to address the problem. The survey conducted by giffgaff, a mobile and broadband provider, highlighted instances where people missed out on significant events like concert tickets, job opportunities, and even the ability to attend a family funeral online due to inconsistent wifi signals. Some participants shared personal stories of relationships ending and disrupted phone calls due to frequent broadband failures.
Among those experiencing connectivity problems, around 53% encounter issues such as frozen work calls, lost shopping orders, and interruptions while streaming movies or TV shows. To stay connected, 36% of respondents leave their homes to seek better signal reception in places like cafes, friends’ houses, libraries, and supermarket parking lots. Additionally, some individuals resort to extreme measures, like parking outside an ex-partner’s residence to utilize their wifi.
At home, people employ various tactics to improve signal strength, including moving around the house, yelling at the router, and using up mobile data by tethering. Despite sharing frustrations in community messaging groups, many are hesitant to switch providers due to perceived inconvenience. Approximately 31% find the process of changing providers too burdensome, while 25% doubt that a different provider would offer better service. As a result, households spend nearly 50 hours annually attempting to troubleshoot their broadband issues.
giffgaff has introduced a new full fibre broadband service with flexible rolling plans starting at £34 per month, no installation charges, and symmetrical upload and download speeds. The service, currently available in select regions like the North West, Yorkshire, and the East Midlands, aims to address the challenges faced by consumers dealing with unreliable internet connections. CEO Ash Schofield emphasized the importance of providing a service that aligns with customer preferences and offers a reliable solution without complications.
Switching to giffgaff’s full fibre broadband could alleviate the frustrations associated with poor connectivity, offering a straightforward solution for individuals seeking a more dependable internet service.
