Holidaymakers planning trips to a European Union destination have been cautioned about dangerous floods that have claimed the lives of at least three individuals. Bulgaria’s Burgas Province, a seaside resort, has witnessed devastating scenes with shocking online videos depicting the impact of flooding on several villages. The southeastern region of Bulgaria and the Black Sea coast have endured calamitous conditions, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency.
Minister Daniel Mitov has confirmed three fatalities, including a man who tragically lost his life in a building basement that was breached by water. The other victims were rescuers responding to distress calls. Search efforts by emergency services, including naval assistance, have intensified to locate missing persons.
Regrettably, some individuals may remain unrecovered as the floods carried away vehicles and trailers into the sea. Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov stated readiness to deploy additional forces if requested by the Ministry of Interior. The army has dispatched two boats with rescue teams to aid those affected by the floods. Further heavy rainfall is forecasted for the region in the next 24 hours.
In a separate incident, popular Spanish destinations such as Ibiza, Formentera, and Valencia faced flooding due to torrential rain. Holidaymakers were advised to exercise caution as forecasters issued a red weather alert. The disruptive weather caused chaos at Ibiza airport, with water pouring through the ceiling and disrupting baggage security areas. Reports of submerged cars attempting to navigate floodwaters surfaced from other areas in Spain.
Similar distressing scenes unfolded in Greece, particularly in cherished locations like Corfu, Oiniades, and Aitoliko in Aitoloakarnania, where residents found themselves trapped in homes due to rising water levels. The impact of severe weather conditions continues to pose challenges across various European regions, requiring vigilance and preparedness from residents and travelers alike.
