In the past, a tin of festive chocolates would typically cost around five pounds. Yet, during my recent supermarket visit, I was taken aback by the prices of Cadbury Roses and Heroes tins, which were on sale for £16.50 each.
There is a slight silver lining for Nectar cardholders, as the same tins can be purchased for £10 with the card. Nevertheless, the prices still seem quite high to me.
Fortunately, Sainsbury’s offers more budget-friendly options for chocolate lovers this Christmas season. For instance, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street costs £13 or £8.50 with a Nectar card.
For those seeking even more affordable choices, tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street are available at Sainsbury’s for just £6 each.
Shoppers looking for the best deals may want to head to Tesco, where 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street are currently priced at £3.95 with a Clubcard (or £4.50 without the card). Similarly, the Heroes tub, priced at £16.50/£10 in Sainsbury’s, is only £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco.
Recently, a comparison of supermarket prices for Christmas chocolate tubs revealed that Asda offers standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations for under £5. Morrisons also sells them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).
Furthermore, Tesco provides affordable options with Celebrations and Quality Street tubs priced at just £3.95 with a Clubcard, while Roses and Heroes are available for £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl are also selling tubs for under £5 each.
Although Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites, they do offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates ranging from approximately £4 to £10.
