Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell at Aston Martin as team principal. Cowell, aged 56, is rumored to be on the verge of dismissal following the recent Las Vegas Grand Prix. After leaving Red Bull in July, Horner has been eager to return to Formula 1.
Following a challenging Las Vegas GP, RacingNews365 indicated that Cowell’s position at Aston Martin is in jeopardy, with the team currently struggling in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, just eight points ahead of Sauber in ninth. The report suggested that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber executive, is the top contender to take over.
Despite this, BBC Sport reported that Horner is also in contention to replace Cowell. Horner, an iconic figure from his time at Red Bull, has been linked to various teams since his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, making the potential move to Aston Martin a significant opportunity for him.
Rumors of Horner joining Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix but were promptly denied by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans to involve Horner in any capacity with the team’s operations or investments in the future.
If Horner does return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would result in a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who had previously criticized Horner for his changed demeanor over the years.
In other news, Red Bull had a successful outing in Las Vegas, with Max Verstappen winning the race and closing the gap in the Drivers’ Championship standings. McLaren faced disqualification after the race, allowing Red Bull and Verstappen to gain ground on the title race ahead of the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix.
