A British tourist who went missing while hiking on the Greek island of Karpathos has been discovered deceased. The 55-year-old man disappeared over a month ago during his solo trip to the island. His body was found on Saturday in a secluded area called Epionia in the northern part of the island.
The tourist was last seen taking photos on his phone in the fishing village of Diafani in June. Witnesses reported that he had asked for directions to Vroukounda via the Lahamitis path.
After the man failed to return to his accommodation, emergency services were alerted. Firefighters, police, coast guard, drones, sniffer dogs, and volunteers conducted a search operation but could not locate him. The man’s body will be transported to the neighboring island of Rhodes for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
In a separate incident earlier this month, another British tourist passed away at a popular Greek holiday destination when he was found unresponsive in the water at Prasonisi, Rhodes. The 57-year-old man was discovered around midday on Sunday, September 7, and despite efforts by paramedics, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Authorities from the Lindos Port Authority have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, with an autopsy scheduled to ascertain the exact cause.
