Fears are mounting for a British teenager who disappeared from a hotel in Thailand, with concerns that he may have been deceived into working at a fraudulent Chinese mafia facility with no means of escape. Lawrence Honour, a 19-year-old computer whiz, was last seen leaving his lodging in Kanchanabur on September 26. Reports suggest he attempted to cross into neighboring Myanmar but was turned back due to border closure amid conflict.
Authorities and his family suspect he might be held against his will in one of the call center factories run by Chinese criminal syndicates, where workers endure grueling conditions and mistreatment. His family has issued a heartfelt plea to locate him and bring him back home, fearing he fell victim to a scam. Lawrence resides in Thailand with his mother and British father, Julian Honour.
His mother, Gulnara, disclosed details of his disappearance, expressing deep concern. She mentioned, “Lawrence left home on September 26, and we lost contact with him. I reported it to Pattaya City Police Station. Upon checking his emails, I discovered his movements in Kanchanaburi province, which raised alarms.” She added, “He is reserved but skilled with computers. I worry he may have been lured into one of these deceitful centers in Myanmar where leaving is restricted.”
Allegedly, he was intercepted while trying to scale a fence into Myanmar and was sent back, as reported by The Sun. Locals claimed to have seen him hitchhiking that evening before getting a ride. Authorities initiated an urgent search operation in response to the situation.
Police Colonel Santi Phitaksakul, superintendent of Sangkhlaburi district station, remarked, “The boy’s mother remains hopeful. She is unaware of his arrival here. Last contact she had, he was already in Sangkhlaburi.” He continued, “Subsequently, he was spotted hitchhiking near Sai Yok Waterfall, heading towards the border. A Thai driver offered him a ride. It is now suspected he may have crossed into Myanmar.”
Efforts are underway to locate him, with authorities coordinating with Myanmar. Sightings resembling him have been reported in Myanmar, awaiting confirmation. The reasons for his journey remain unclear, with speculations ranging from persuasion by others to potential illicit activities such as casino visits. It is suspected he may have utilized natural routes, possibly aided by individuals familiar with the paths on the Myanmar side.
