A woman managed to capture the shocking moment her ex-partner viciously attacked her outside her home before she went to work. Rosie Niessen, aged 28, was heading to her job as a prison officer when Simon Scrimshaw, her former partner aged 50, ambushed her from behind with a sharp knife. He ruthlessly slashed her throat and inflicted severe injuries on her face, neck, and hands as she struggled to defend herself. Rosie’s father, Roberto Niessen, aged 55 and a doorman, heard her cries for help and intervened, albeit sustaining a deep cut to his leg in the process.
In January 2024, Scrimshaw was convicted of attempted murder and causing serious bodily harm and was sentenced to 28 years in prison by Nottingham Crown Court.
Reflecting on the terrifying incident, Rosie, now unemployed and residing in Hucknall, expressed her shock at the premeditated attack. She recounted how Scrimshaw had hidden in the bushes for almost an hour before assaulting her as she was leaving. Rosie vividly described the moment he grabbed her and inflicted the horrific injuries.
The relationship between Rosie and Scrimshaw began in 2017 when she was 21, and despite their significant age difference, she was initially charmed by him. They had a daughter together, but the relationship was tumultuous, leading Rosie to end things in late 2022. Two days after the assault, they were set to appear in family court due to Rosie’s application for a restraining order against him.
Following the attack, Rosie struggled with both physical and emotional scars, preventing her from returning to work. She emphasized the importance of sharing her story to support other victims of domestic violence, urging them to stay strong and emphasizing that no one who truly cares for them should ever harm them.
